Universally, there are people who choose to homeschool their children in efforts to provide them with a better education and learning environment. However, homeschooling in the United States and homeschooling in the United Kingdom are characteristically different from each other in many ways. Each county has their own structure, their own statistics, and their own terminology, with reference to way children are being taught at home instead of participating in compulsory education.

Homeschool statistics show, the U.S. has recently been showing an increase in the number of students who are being taught at home. With more than 1.1 million children being homeschooled, the number accounts for 2.2% of the total student population. Similarly, the UK is also showing an increase in the number of students being taught as home. The exact numbers are difficult to obtain without a conclusive survey being performed, but estimated to be anywhere between .09% and .42%. However, in the UK, teaching children at home is usually referred to as home education, instead of homeschooling.

Within the United States, parents who homeschool their children must meet certain educational requirements. Both the nation and the state have curriculum requirements for homeschooling that are very similar to those of compulsory education. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, the students who receive a home education do not have to meet any set requirements. Parents have complete control over the type of education their child receives. Their resulting knowledge goes unevaluated by any authority.
