Homeschool statistics are staggering. Homeschooling is on the rise and there are so many reasons why families are choosing to go this route. Homeschooling is now the fastest growing trend in education. It is estimated that there are currently over 2 million homeschool children and that it is constantly on the rise.
Who is Homeschooling:
The latest homeschool statistics show that people from all socioeconomic backgrounds, races and religions were choosing to homeschool. This varies from earlier studies which showed the typical homeschool family as being Caucasian, middle class and Christian as well as college educated.
In December 2008 the National Department of Education put out a study that stated that there were 1.5 million homeschooled children in 2007. By spring of 2008 some studies showed that there were over 2 million being homeschooled.
Why do people choose to homeschool:

- School violence played a key role. Parents are concerned for the safety of their children.
- Socialization. While every homeschool parent has heard the argument of socialization, these parents also want to have a hands on approach to their children’s social involvement.
- Homeschool curriculum can help the child move at their own pace unlike the traditional public school. Homeschoolers like feeling like they can offer their children more than the school system.
- Homeschoolers like the idea of strengthening family relationships while providing education.
- Homeschoolers like the ability to instill morals, values and belief in their children as they learn their core subjects.
American tax payers save $16 million dollars due to the numbers of children who are homeschooled and do not rely on the funding from the public school system.
Homeschool students are quickly being recruited by colleges. The test scores they produce are outstanding as a whole.
No matter what statistics you look at you will see that homeschooling is on the rise. It looks like it will just keep on growing as a trend. It is becoming more and more mainstream.
